Animal Welfare

Kennel Guidelines

We follow strict, thoughtful guidelines to ensure the best care for our kennel and huskies. Below, you’ll find an overview of what matters most to us and how we keep our dogs happy and healthy. All of our huskies are treated like family - born and raised on our farm, never bred for sale, and trained to be comfortable indoors.

General guidelines for responsible care taking and dog-welfare at our kennel :

  • Feeding: Our huskies are fed twice a day, with fresh water always available in summer and a warm, calorie-rich soup in winter. We use only the highest-quality food for working dogs - Royal Canin 4800 Sporting Life Energy - combined with premium fish and meat. Each dog’s calorie intake is carefully adjusted to their individual needs and activity level, keeping them healthy, strong, and ready for adventure.
  • Kennel Cleaning: The kennel is cleaned at least twice a day to keep it fresh, hygienic, and comfortable for our dogs.
  • Adequate Shelter: Each dog has their own sturdy doghouse, providing proper protection from the weather in every season. For dogs that need extra care, we have a dedicated place inside our private house and living room, where they can sleep safely and comfortably indoors. We most of the time have one or two dog indoors with us, and take turns so they all get properly house-trained.
  • Spacious Living Areas: Our dogs live two by two in large pens, giving them space to play and socialize. When needed, they can also have a pen to themselves. Some pens are fitted with wooden floors for dogs who need this.
  • Play Areas: We have three large fenced running areas where the dogs can run free, play, and socialize. Every day, two small groups of 3–6 dogs take turns enjoying the playgrounds, ensuring everyone gets time to run, explore, and just be happy huskies.
  • Responsible Breeding: When females are in heat, they are kept safely in separate pens. All puppies are born inside our house, where they receive constant care, attention, and of course, all necessary vaccinations from day one. We breed only for our own kennel, never for sale. Most of our dogs are born and raised here, spending their entire lives with us as beloved family members.
  • Veterinary Care: All our dogs receive the necessary vaccinations, health certificates, and regular deworming. Our kennel is subject to unannounced inspections by the Norwegian Animal Health Authorities, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. We work with two trusted veterinarians who have known our dogs since birth, regularly visiting and monitoring their health—and they are available on call 24/7 should we ever need them.
  • Training & Activity: Our huskies are true athletes who thrive on exercise and adventure. They run five days a week during autumn and winter, building strength and endurance for the season. In summer, they enjoy plenty of playtime in our large outdoor areas. We carefully train each dog for the activities they participate in and always adapt the distance and intensity to their individual needs—never asking more of them than they can happily give.
  • Socialization: From the day they are born, our dogs are surrounded by people and enjoy plenty of human contact. They are truly part of our family, and we keep our kennel small enough to maintain a personal bond with each and every one of them. Every dog is treated as an individual—they all know their names and happily come running when called.
  • Retirement and Rehoming: We rehome all our dogs when they retire from their working-dog career - either with previous guests who have developed a bond with one of them, or with some of our handlers, or with other trusted individuals we know. Our goal is to ensure each dog enjoys a well-deserved retirement as a pet, in a loving family that suits their personality and needs. If for any reason this arrangement doesn’t work out, the dogs are always welcome to return home to us.
